Evaluation | Completed Question 1

We used a variety of camera shot which shows we followed Vernallis theory. We was inspired to use long shots by Rihanna's Only Girl, we used long shot to the audience what the artist is wearing as well as movement. Only Girl also inspired us to use close up to show the synergy in detail as well as facial expressions.

Evaluation: Question 1

Q1 In what ways does your product use, develop and challenge real media products? To begin creating my music video, I had to understand the genre. My music video was a genre of Pop. This meant that I had to learn what the Pop genre was and the conventions belonging to that genre. In addition I also needed to understand the Pop genre. Researching the genre individually was the best way to approach this task rather than researching real media that had already merged. firstly, it was hard to find a song with this variation and also most songs do not strictly adhere to a genre. Music nowadays has blended all types of genres in one big hybrid. Also, by researching the genres individually allowed me to gain an in depth knowledge of each of the genres, in turn allowing me to have greater fluency and creativity when producing the music video. However, this was also difficult because it meant we didn’t have a definite guideline to follow, thus we had to balance and be conscious of how much Pop conventions we put in. Initially we made the assumption that our chosen song waspop. but rather had elements of other genres, mainly Pop. Pop music has always been the dominant genre ever since its arrival in 1950. The term popular music and pop music are often used interchangeably, even though the former is a description of music that is popular (and can include any style). This genre cannot be defined objectively because the genre is a platform for all types of genres. Most mainstream music is a hybridity of many genres, such as our chosen song. We got the ideas for our music video from researching existing examples of the Pop genre. After analysing the genre we were able to define the iconography and the common conventions. (I used the Internet and Youtube for our research, this was because the Internet is best place to find information and Youtube allows me to visualise the actual information).

Ancillary Productions | Completed Advertisement

I am very pleased and proud of the outcome of my digipak. I believe I have promoted the artist and album through the elements of text and layout whereby showing continuity through the colour scheme, font and image.

Ancillary Production | Completed Digipak

The end of ancillary production has arrived. I am really pleased and proud of the outcome of my digipak as it is exactly how I imagined it to be and better. I believe I have portrayed the artist Kayla'O through the elements of image, font, colour scheme and layout.

Ancillary Production: Review and Comments

This is just a review and a few comments on how I think the ancillary production of both the digipak and advertisement went:

Production of Ancillary: The Digipak - Remake of the Inside!

This is an explanation on why I decided to remake the inside of my digipak:

The following are pictures of the production of the digipak (inside remake):

Production of Ancillary Products: Advert

Advertisement of Kayla May Owen

This was the first ever Advertisement I did, and as you can see I wasn't really sticking to the conventional covers of white, black, and red because, the background is a grey colour. Also, another thing that is wrong with this cover is that there are no links and no image of the artist, therefore, the audience cannot recognise them.
As you can see, I added the CD Cover to this advertisement, however it still doesn't feel right. It doesn't follow the pop genre advertisement conventions, so I will completely scrap this advert, and start creating a brand new one.

With the final cover, I completely switched everything around. I made the album art work the main focus of the poster. Then at the bottom, I added the links and some special features along with the links of our artist below the line. As you can see across my digipak, I have the symbol "V" placed right beneath the soundcloud link, and also the record label on the bottom left corner. You can also see the debut album release date at the very top, and I'd like to believe that everything looks very good and well put, but I guess we can see what our target audience thinks in the next blog post.

Production of Ancillary: The Making of the Advertisement!

Production of Ancillary Products: Second Look

The Final Look
This is the second look of my CD Cover. In the first image, I talked about the background colour and it's pink-sh/nude theme colour. With this look, I wanted to focus on the artist, and since our signature makeup is the red lips, I wanted to be conventional and apply that same colour to the background of the CD Cover. Originally, I was going to use a medium shot on the front cover, however, researching other pop female artists, I found that the smart thing to do is to include a close up, so that the audience can get a good look on who the artist is.

Once I positioned my front cover image, I thought that it could use some colour. So I adjusted some of the levels and contrast on the image, played around with the curves and exposure, which resulted into this ^. Next I used the same font for both the name and title of the album, to keep it conventional and have a link to the music video.

Production of Ancillary Products: First Look

First look at Ancillary Product:

After a lot of changes to my Ancillary product, this is the first real draft I managed to create after our following Media lesson. I couldn't find the perfect shade red so I decided to stick with this nude/pink-ish colour.
