Evaluation Question Planning

Evaluation: Question 1

Q1 In what ways does your product use, develop and challenge real media products? To begin creating my music video, I had to understand the genre. My music video was a genre of Pop. This meant that I had to learn what the Pop genre was and the conventions belonging to that genre. In addition I also needed to understand the Pop genre. Researching the genre individually was the best way to approach this task rather than researching real media that had already merged. firstly, it was hard to find a song with this variation and also most songs do not strictly adhere to a genre. Music nowadays has blended all types of genres in one big hybrid. Also, by researching the genres individually allowed me to gain an in depth knowledge of each of the genres, in turn allowing me to have greater fluency and creativity when producing the music video. However, this was also difficult because it meant we didn’t have a definite guideline to follow, thus we had to balance and be conscious of how much Pop conventions we put in. Initially we made the assumption that our chosen song waspop. but rather had elements of other genres, mainly Pop. Pop music has always been the dominant genre ever since its arrival in 1950. The term popular music and pop music are often used interchangeably, even though the former is a description of music that is popular (and can include any style). This genre cannot be defined objectively because the genre is a platform for all types of genres. Most mainstream music is a hybridity of many genres, such as our chosen song. We got the ideas for our music video from researching existing examples of the Pop genre. After analysing the genre we were able to define the iconography and the common conventions. (I used the Internet and Youtube for our research, this was because the Internet is best place to find information and Youtube allows me to visualise the actual information).

Ancillary Production - images from production

SPOILER ALERT!!

Here is my album front cover and back cover, unfinished as you can see as its not completed yet.
I have so far included all the conventions for the front of album covers such as the artist name.artist image and album name.

I am using Photoshop to create my digipak, the reason for this is because i use Photoshop for my other subject that i study that is photography therefore i am quite similar with how to use it.

I still need to complete the back cover which hopefully should be done by tomorow

Ancillary Research - My chosen Photos

Images

Below are the images i plan to use for my digipak:

The first image i have chosen is a medium shot of the artist with her hand above her chest,i have chosen this because the shot type is perfect for an album cover and the ring on the artists finger is very visable.

This image was chosen because it is an close up which will help promote the artist and make my album cover look realistic as one of the convention of album covers is to promote the artist.

Short list of fonts, colours, layout and design ideas;

Ancillary Research : Detailed analysis of three magazine

First Advert:

The first magazine is from Ellie Gouldings album "lights",Synergy is used throughout the advert as we can see the same colours used. The artists hair and the colour of the text are matching along with the top half of the background.Like all good adverts this one contains a large and clearly visable artist name in order to help promote the artist as well as the album. The advert includes a review from the target audience as well as a rating out of 5 which helps people decide wether they want to buy this album or not.The image used of the artist is a close up shot in order to promote the artist and make people aware of who the artist is,on the top half of this advert we can see some glitter, this helps the audience identify what genre this artist and her music belong to.

Second Advert:

The second magazine is from Labrinth and the album is called "let the sun shine".The mai colours used in this advert are green, black and orange/gold.we can see the background has a bit of green on it ,mainly around the large text. This advert similarly to the one before has audience reviews to help the audience decided whether the album is worth buying or not.The advert includes details on where the album can be bought aswell as the website of the artist.

Third Advert:

The third and final advert is by Wretch 32 and is called "Wretchrospective".
The main colours used in this advert are white, blue and black,
The block of flats in the background could possibly connote that Wretch 32 comes from a deprived background,The advert contains little hints o what to expect from the album such as guest appearances which makes the audience excited. The colour blue is used to represent clouds and as it is a bright colour it could mean he has had a dark past but his future is bright.
